General Instructions
  1. For the STS 2023 program, the registration date starts from 20th December, 2022 (10:00am) till 16th January, 2023 (by 11:59pm) and application submission with research proposal and other enclosures starts from 20th December, 2022 (10:00am) till 27th January, 2023 (by 11:59pm). Proposals received by e-mail will not be considered. The application form has to be filled in and submitted ONLINE as per detailed instructions provided. No hard copies of the proposal shall be received or considered.

  2. The student must carry out the research in his/her own medical (recognized by National Medical Council of India-NMC)/ dental college (recognized by Dental Council of India-DCI) under the Guide who is employed in the same medical/dental college as a permanent faculty.

  3. Only regular full time faculty members working in the same Medical/Dental College where the student is enrolled can act as the guide. Part time consultants/visitingfaculty/residents/Readers/Tutors/Poolofficers/PGstudents cannot be the guide.

  4. Only one student will be allowed to work under one guide. Similarly one guide can take up only one student under STS in any given year. Two or more students are not permitted to work on same topic together. Proposal submitted on the same topic by different students are liable to be rejected outright. The student may have one Guide and other Co-Guides. However, ICMR will recognize only ONE main Guide for all purposes.

  5. Clinical trial protocols will not be considered under STS and should not be submitted.

  6. The student should obtain a clearance from the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) if the proposal involves research on human participants and from Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) if the work involves use of animals. The IEC/ IAEC approval should be obtained any time between January–April before beginning actual research work. The certificate may be submitted either along with proposal or with the report. Informed consent is to be obtained for research on human participants.   7. If the proposal is accepted, Institutional Ethics Committee approval should be obtained from the medical/dental college where the student is enrolled before initiating research. IEC/IAEC approvals should be taken before 15th August, 2023, so as the Student gets the required time to do his/her research work. IEC/IAEC approval letter dated after 15th August, 2023 will NOT be accepted later during report submission time.

  8. The student should have all documents ready in the desired blank formats and as per given instructions before start filling up the online application form (Research proposal/ attestation form/ other enclosures like IEC approval, ICF, Case record forms etc.)

  9. Scanned documents i.e. Application/Report Attestation Form, Ethics Committee Clearance or other files viz., Case record, Questionnaire etc. should be submitted as PDF file only other formats viz. MS Word, JPEG etc. will not be accepted.

  10. Students who were unable to complete their STS 2022 project can re-apply for STS 2023 with the same project. However, it will not be given any special preference and will be treated as afresh/new application and if their STS 2022 reports gets selected then the STS 2023 application will get automatically cancelled.

  11. Students/ Guides are requested to submit STS applications well in advance and not to wait for the last date and avoid the last minute rush and technical errors on the portal for which ICMR is not responsible and will not consider any such requests.

  12. ICMR will not be responsible in case the student is unable to submit the proposal/project in time due to any reason whatsoever and request for extension of last date will not be considered.

  13. Students are requested to visit ICMR website (www.icmr.nic.in) and comply with instructions updated from time to time about STS program.
